    garage lighting

What have you seen or have that you like?
Right now my new garage has 12 8' T12 2 bulb Flourescent lights in it. 7\8 of them work, they take for ever to warm up, I don't like the layout for use of light in the garage aka they have to go.
    The garage is 32'x32'
As of right now I'm planning on replacing the lighting with 7 8' T8 jobs and 3 4' t8 units laied out in a better manner that will make better use of the light.
Just for the fixtures I'm looking at ~$400 without bulbs. Which is already more than I want to spend.

Any suggestions folks? (Yes I'd love to do LED but it's not even close to the budget.

All of my fixtures are -20º start and 0º instant on. Before I had heat out there, they worked great in the cold and at the temp they are rated for but during the hot summer months 2 of them would go into overheat and shut themselves down for about 20 minutes. The ballasts are old and very heavy and when one starts to give me an annoying buzzing sound, $35 at home depo will get me a new and much lighter digital ballast of which doesn't buzz or overheat. I only have 6 8' fixtures and honestly can't even remember if I have ever changed a bulb. They're going on 10 years now. They are just Menard specials but were about $80 on sale

I have a lot of experience with lighting since i am a liscenced electrician. I have done several garages for tcstangs members and had great results with 2 of them being my own. I have. Typically gotten by pretty cheap with lights but they arent free if you want ones that work good.

That being said, good luck with your project, cheap ass.

        I disagree.

Both of my garages use T12 48" bulbs. I just replaced a bunch the other day. It was about 20 bucks for 10 bulbs. 2600 lumens 7.1 years.

I have a bulb. I don't use it though because then people would be able to see in and view my stash of exotic super cars.

I did my entire garage with T5 High Outputs, bulbs are super compact, 5/8" diameter, I think each 48" double fixture is 9,000+ lumens, about 110 watts per fixture, really happy with them. I think I paid about $60 per fixture with bulbs. I liked them because even the double fixtures are only about 1.5" wide, my garage isn't finished so I'm always storing stuff in the rafters, these are only about 1/8" wider than my joists so I don't snag them while bringing stuff down.

Word. Seemed excessive on price but I haven't looked into lighting in a damn long time. You could maybe cheap out and get led strips off a Chinese wholesale website and get the drivers as well.
