I've never had more fun driving ANYTHING than when I drove a shifter kart. The acceleration felt about the same as my car except it held about 2.5 g's lateral. Just nuts...

there was a 125 shifter kart that was at a shop I used to go to. the guy spent a hella lot of money on the engine, even dynoing it.
I guess the car would do 0-100-0 in under 10 seconds.
the other shop I used to go to liked to have little fun projects. they took on the the briggs engines that the beginners use, hookes up what they figured was a 40 shot of nitrous on it. brought it out to a little dyno and as soon as they hit the button the chain snapped off. and the engine free revved. put in the common "picture window" most racing briggs engines have.
Karting is buy far the cheapest way to get into competive road racing. the track I would always go to is located in Eua Claire wisconsin.
The 125's we drove did 60 in 3.5 so I'm sure 100 didn't come too far after...

there was a european 250 tested in a car and driver a while ago. and once again they showed how terrible they are at driving everything. If I remember right the best they could squeeze out of it was a mid 11.
yeah, those are pretty much the same cars I raced. they are weighted down a whole bunch. because of all the gaurd rails and stuff they have. the engines they use are also detuned a little bit. the Briggs engines that I have here run on straight methonal.
if you do want to buy one let me know. I have two of them at my house, that would be good starter karts. IE: newer chassis but the briggs engine. the little engine teaches you how to drive the car and keeping the revs up. or I can give you the names and numbers of the shops I would go to.
way cheaper then racing anything compareable to the performance of them.
also I would like to mention that it is a bad idea to just start out racing shifter karts. and if you do I would recommend starting with an 80CC shifter kart.
