Well I started working a night job at a foundry to try and go to college to become a mechanical engineer. Found out fast that would not work, joined that national guard college and living payed for and 45k (deployment) in my pocket so i could focus on college and not figure out how to make ends meet. Best thing i ever did will be nice leaving college with a degree and debt free. When most of the people i know have 50k plus and that was with a lot of help from their parents for food housing ect so they probably used 15k plus parents money, money my parents would never give me. That and if you do the right MOS you have great options for employment in the state i could right now go get a job at the st cloud hanger making great money and benefits still might.

I dont regret missing the opportunity to die in the sandbox, but I often wonder how different life today (if I still had it) would be. Considering I have done well, learned a lot and am still healthy there really isn't much room for regret. How anyone could chose to sign up to potentially kill / murder people for money I could never understand, you're not protecting our country/freedom/bs your protecting the rich/capitalist that have pissed someone else off. You do realize units of the national guard primary mission is state and is governor controlled, in Minnesota aviation a big part of that is flood and fire fighting.
