Ford/Mercury/Cougar enthusiasts: does anyone know if Merc/Ford actually ever made the 2000-2002 Mercury Cougar "S"?

Since it's going to come up: yes, those FWD Cougars were nothing but redesigned Probes, a palette for rice, etc. I'm not a huge fan of them, but I'm curious if those things ever made into production.

Actually, I think they used the same chassis as the ZX2....

And I never did see a "cougar s".

I shoulda said "redesigned Probe"...that was their reputation.

The 99-02 Cougar was based off of the Contour/Mystique; I know that much.

Not really the only thing that was universal between the 2 were the engine and front cradle...

The cougar was actually a Ford UK design to begin with.....

The contour's, mystiques, foci`, mondeo, escort, Festiva(uk), and cougars were built on the 1994 "World car platform" each one of those had little changes in clearences but yet they were all the same design


The S model you speak of were mostly Yellow with black stripes, special edition wheels, different badges and all came with the twin cam motor...

(I thinke white bear lincoln were the one dealer to sell them in the state, I may be wrong)

I think what he's wondering is if they ever made the rumored Cougar with the SVT Contour treatment. I'm pretty sure the answer is no.

I kinda like those Cougars. They drive nice and one would make a great second car if i ever need to replace the 'Scort. You can carry a lot of stuff in a hatchback, plus i could find one in Mineral Grey to match the 'Stang.
