"fair" market value in MN, regarding vehicle title transfers

I transferred the title to a new to me vehicle. Fast tracked it like normal. I get a call today saying I have to pay sales tax of 6.25% on fair market value of $4,XXX. I got the vehicle for cheaper than that. The lovely lady at the License center said to come in and fill out a form to send in to appeal the cost of the vehicle... anyone every have an issue with this?

Just appeal it like Sheri or Angie said to do. Get an estimate from a shop and use that as proof that it needs work. I've sold multiple Yukons under 3k.

This is such a scam, when I bought my 68 chevelle they called it an above market value vehicle and according to their database of recent sales they wanted to tax me for $40k, nevermind that I actually paid $11k for it. I ended up putting collector plates on it to get around that bs.

I was actually went to the maplewood location to do my title transfer. The lady that helped me was pretty hot. 30 or so with short red hair. I'd take her to dinner.

I paid $40 more I'm not too sure why but my title should go through this time. So the sexy License center chick tells me
