I pay $5 a month for a web server. I also back up some non-important files on an external. I'd like to set up a NAS box but don't have the money right now. Only thing that is really worth keeping in off site storage are pictures for home insurance reasons and that can go on and SD card next to the paperwork.
Do you use an external hard drive to backup your important files?

I use Crashplan (they are local) www.crashplan.com to backup all my family pictures and a few documents. They are awesome, highly suggest them. I honestly don't have that many "important files" beyond my family pics and videos. I don't give two shits about music/games/movies. If I lost all of them I wouldn't cry about it. I got most of my music on google music as a "just in case".
All my work is on my work computer and is backed up at work. All I really need is google docs and crash plan. I try not to hoard data.

Crashplan will even let you send them your data over the mail if you don't feel like waiting several days for your data to upload.

So I spent a few hours thinking of what to do. Get all of my important files onto one of the drives and put that drive someplace where in the event something does happen, I am not totally fucked. I don't know about you guys, but I have pictures that date all the way back to my birth, which means they are more important than my life itself.
So I thought about what to do. I have a bunch of ammo cans that are sitting empty. So I thought about taking a 50 cal can and buying some foam, cutting it to fit then putting it in there. I looked at the prices of foam and this shit is pretty expensive. And I thought...is this really the time to be a cheap ass? Fuck no.
Then I got an idea. And I went to Amazon. And with Amazon Prime I got this bitch for under 18.00 shipped.
There are 3 layers of pretty decent foam. And since it's made for 4 guns, holding this old hard drive was no big deal. It has that break away foam so you can pull it apart to really hold your shit in place.
And here's where to buy if you'd like to use it for your hard drive or shit, your guns as it's a pretty decent piece for the money.
Here are the pics. Enjoy!
And now it's all ready to be stored off location, and when I transport it, I don't need to worry about dropping/breaking it or any shit like that.
The end.

I really only needed it for my Ford files. The music although replaceable would cost me thousands if I didn't have my buddy TK the DJ up there. He's my backup backup

I've got every sinple picture and video I give two shits about on my Photobucket account - great bandwidth, easability and its safe.
I backup nothing at home, I have nothing I care about on any of the multiple servers and pc's I've got running. All of the crap I've downloaded can be replaced, if I forget about it, I probably didn't need it anyway...08' Focus Coupe MTX 2.0 / 00' Contour SVT 3.0 / 95' F150 5.0 / 86' F350 6.9IDI / 74' Bronco EFI 5.8 / 74' Bronco Ranger EFI 5.8 / 66' Mercury Monterey 352FE / 64' Galaxy 500 390 FEI bleed blue
