Recommend someone to replace my Sliding Glass door

My door leaks, i had someone out to quote me a super high price for door installation 1500 bucks ridiculous . I willing to pay a component carpenter fair wage for a days work.

Im looking for someone that does this for a living not a weekend warrior. This could be a side job or a normal work hours job.

1500 just in labor? Is this just replacing an existing door?

$1500 is not a bad price honestly. With a leaky patio door I have seen a day turn into a weekend. You cant see the damage or what may need to be replaced because of water damage or rot till it is out.

That is about Right. 8 -10 hours, plus the cover my ass factor. Is it a flanged vinyl door or a all wood frame and clad? 6' or 8'??

flanged 8 foot door, if there is any rot I understand I have to replace that at extra cost

so your saying 10 hours at 1500 would be $150 an hour that is outrageous, wage is around 35 an hour for a carpenter 45 for master, Im not paying 3 times wage. if you make 150 an hour you making over 300K a year....

here is a picture, I have extra siding and everything.

Kind of like auto mechanics...labor to pull a replace a trans is about $1000 bit they can probably do it in a couple hours.

I think $1500 might be a bit strong but not far off.

$1500 does not seem bad to me. you forgot about adding in materials cost, insurance, etc

go for the lowest bidder though and see how it turns out.

I am not here to argue. Just giving my opinion based on experience. There are tons of carpenters on Craigslist looking for work. There are a bunch more online and in the yellow pages. Get a few estimates and make a decision. I am just saying that I bet all the estimates are over $1000. I am not a licensed carpenter, or one by trade, but I have done my fair share of remodel and did a lot of the finish work in my house when I built it. I would not touch that job for under $1000. You cant look at it like a hourly job. Its a side job, where all the responsibility is on the person doing the work. Plus most likely done on a weekend or week night.

I have a hair over 1 yard of concrete i need poured. I cant find anyone to touch it for under $1000. It is what it is.

i thought 800-900 would be good, there is not matirials need just labor I supply all materials, 1500 would be a good deal if it included the door. I guess I just call around

Then you should go do it for $500.

Take the Ohmyclitoris approach and see how it works out for you. Be sure to stress that you want it done as cheap as possible.

If you don't mind me saying, from the pic it looks like the drip edge and/or the shingles don't stick out far enough to shed off the water. That and the bump out puts the patio door right where rain water would fall.

I would get more estimates and check for rot. If there isn't any rot, I would try throwing up some gutters and see if that resolves the issue. Would be a lot cheaper and would probably have to be done anyways.

(I could be wrong I'm just an average homeowner.)

thanks for that reply makes sense

My goal wasn't to find one you hack jobs to fix it, but rather you have had some work on your house or a relative is a carpenter that you could refer me to.
