Why don't we have anything cool like LOTO up here on Lake Minnetonka, or Prior Lake, or even White Bear Lake?
not big enough water and those darn 55mph speed limits. you could do it in the St croix/mississippi but all the locks and dams and no wakes would put a damper on it.

Superior would work...

LOTO has always catered to the wild and rowdy along with the high performance boat crowd.
The completion of the Bangell Dam in the early 30's created the largest man-made lake in the country. From day one the lake was developed for recreation and building codes were quite lax. Houses sprung up everywhere. The main channel of the lake is over 90 miles long and this does not count the arms that go off to the sides for several miles in some places. The shore is lined with houses, condos, marinas, and bar/restaurants. During the building boom of the 90's and early 2000's it seemed a new development was springing up each time you looked. There are something like 50 or 60,000+ homes on the lake itself. At one point not too long ago there were 46 bars/restaurants on the lake. The lake is located within a couple hours drive of Kansas City and St Louis so it is a haven for the wealthy and an easy drive to spend the weekend.
And then there is party cove....
For years the lake had no speed limit day or night and they did not enforce noise ordinances. They did implement a 35 MPH night speed limit due to some boat crashes involving speed and alcohol. They also started to crack down on the noise.
I don't believe they have a day time speed limit currently, but they have used a careless boating law at times when some people have wound it up a bit too much and got a bit nuts with their wake jumping... (a friend of mine got stopped for that one trip when we were down there). Also, there are very few no-wake zones.
There is no way a scene like LOTO will ever be duplicated on any of the waters around here. The whistle pissers and granola eaters wont stand for it.
And it's become larger and larger each year. A lot of 1-bedroom places around are have been torn down, and big 2,000+ sq ft places have been going in, or condos as well. Hell, the guy on the next cove over has an "infinity pool" in front of his place and a f*cking helicopter & landing pad on his dock.

Yup Scotty about sums it up. We saw a pleasure cruiser that had run a shore a few years back. He came under the bridge in OSAGE at night full throttle and didn't stay right. There is a point that sticks out with a golf course on it. He parked his 40 plus foot yacht on the green! LOL And there is a lot of rock between the water and that green! We could see blood all over inside the boats white interior.
And if you are into speed and boats this is the place to be, there is a reason they use heli's to video the shootout! Its insane. Last time I was down there I was in a boat that had a cruising speed of about 90MPH. It was like driving a Mustang in a lake full of UGR Lambos. LOTO is the TEXAS MILE for boats.
