        Can't say that I'm surprised, looks like it's being treated like any other prize money, though it would be nice if they exempted the Olympic athletes from this rule.

              They should pay taxes on their prize money for sure, but not on the value of the medals. They should only be taxed on those if they sell them. Dumb!

                If someone wins a car at a casino (for example), they pay taxes on it, right? I know it's dumb but I'm not too surprised by taxing them.

                              If it is above the $770 exemption for personal use and is a taxable item then I would imagine that they do remit a use tax to the State of Minnesota.
