    December 7th, 1941

    Every year, more people forget.

When I visited the Arizona, the oil from her tank was still seeping out into the sea. It is powerful - I recommend everyone visit the memorial.

The Japanese awoke a sleeping giant with that attack. I wonder if our country would have the same resolve today.

I haven't forgotten, in fact this is the 70th anniversary of the attack.

I was watching the news and they mentioned that the Minnesota history Center is having a showing of "First Shot: The Secret Submarine Attack on Pearl Harbor", a documentary on our sinking of a Japanese sub at the start of the war. >Link

I'm not so sure. Back then we were all about kicking ass. Nowadays we're about occupying and trying to change their minds -- and only if we can get Oprah to agree that a response is needed.

I always ask everyone I see at work on December 7th what we as Americans remember today... most don't know/care.

70 years, that is crazy. I always was so fascinated with WWII history.

After WWI the American public wanted nothing to do with war.

After WWI we had a very non-interventionist foreign policy, but ever since we kicked ass in WWII the country decided it was our job to mold the rest of the world in our image. The government at least, the public by in large doesn't want to be nation building constantly, but if there were an actual reason to go to a real war I'd think the American people would be on board, only problem is we haven't really had a legitimate reason to go to war in a long time (Afghanistan excluded).

You are correct. But they weren't going to take attacks on American soil either. Retribution was without mercy. I don't think our country has the stomach to deliver that kind of ass whooping again.
