I could use some help with purchasing some headlight bulbs.

I'm looking to purchase some halogens for my mustang it's an 04 gt, so it's got the fog lights too. I'll admit that I'm not all that familiar with how the "ranking" system works for brightness i.e. 5000k etc.

What I want to get is the bright white headlights and foglights.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I don't want to upgrade to HID.

If you don't want to upgrade to HIDs, you're not gonna need to look at the brightness. You're also not going to find perfect white halogen bulbs. The brightest halogen bulbs I've seen are the Silverstar Ultra's, they claim they're around 4200k. That's a bit more yellow than the perfect white - 5000k, but are just normal regular bulbs, that cost 25 bucks each.

I've gone to HIDs in 2 of my cars, and haven't gone back. I would like to put them in more cars - like the mustang and the truck, but I'm too focused on saving money for now to get out of MN. One day, everything I own will be sporting HIDs, the costs are down to about the same as the good halogen bulbs...

Watch the wattage rating on whatever bulb you buy. I've had a few melt the headlight connector.

The Kelvin scale refers to color temperature of the light. It does not measure brightness. Lumen is the brightness scale.

The higher the kelvin, the lower the lumen or light output.

4800K is actually the brightest bulb out there. Most people stick in the 3200-5800 range. Anything higher than that and it is more for looks, less for function.

The 4800K bulb is about the highest in lumens, thus the "brightest" of them. When you go higher in color temperature (kelvin) the brightness (lumens) drops off. So, if you are looking for the ability to illuminate objects you are pissing away money when you start going higher in kelvin. All you are buying is rice.

I know what you meant, I just wanted to bust your balls for saying kelvin don't measure brightness and then go on to say 4800k is the brightest.

I'm kinda curious how you got to that conclusion, is that what you measured your teeth at in the dark?

Yeah Car payments suck. At least I only have 1. And that car doesnt have HID/XENON either.

I think the 8500K have a riced out bluish/purple hue. I prefer 6000K , it is a pretty pure white with a hint of the blue.
