    Freeware Anti-Spyware

Whats the best one these days and where to get it from a secure site?

Since I moved I don't have Norton with Comcast anymore...

    Thanks in advance.

You're looking for anti spyware in particular? Then spybot S&D would be a good choice:

Spybot offers a unique technology for your security. Far beyond antivirus Spybot searches and destroys unwanted software and protects your privacy.

Be mindful that this is not anti virus, nor is it great for removing malware. I'd recommend MSE or Avast, and Malwarebytes, respectively, for those tasks.

You don't have to worry about running any of this shit if you use Ubuntu, which works great for 90% of home users. www.ubuntu.com

If you thought Avast was bogging you down, I can't imagine how horrible using Norton was for you.

Might as well be using a single core processor and no AV. At least it'll save cost and electricity

Everybody STFU about Ubuntu finally being user friendly. The bootloader is shit. It nukes drives. Unity is shit. It breaks everything. Every time I read the word I rage.

Nuking drives? Really? Surely this epidemic is all over the intern.... nope. Must just be you.

As for unity, I dislike it too. 11.04 runs classic mode just fine though.

I'm assuming most people who have my problem do the same thing as me: Laugh about it with friends, microwave the install disc, and never mention the horrors of Linux for the next three years until they forget how terrible the experience was and do it all over again. Only the uber-nerd will post about a seemingly unique problem.

The install and bootloader are shit. To put it simply, Ubuntu decided that regardless of BIOS settings, regardless of SATA ordering, regardless of what I chose, it was going to ignore my HDD and plant its feet firmly on my SSD. Win7's boot.ini and 11.04's LILO had a sissy fight and decided that neither one of them should have access to my SSD. It should be marked off as no-man's land and remain in purgatory. LILO also liked to pretend that my internal multi-card reader was an unresponsive USB device. Just too many ridiculous little problems and one major problem for it to be a viable home system for Mr. and Mrs. Herp.

It's close, but it's not there yet. (It was a lot closer BEFORE unity)

Fuzzy, do not dare interfere with the Ubuntu marketing machine. You WILL be assimilated.

That and whenever someone asks a question like "How do I send an email?", Stormy comes back with "SWITCH TO LINUX NAOW!"

Yeah, you guys are right. Since Fuzzy had a problem installing it, it's now considered unusable for a home system. I'll immediately stop recommending it.

I'll recommend Windows instead. No one has ever had a problem with that OS.

I'm no expert but have you tried taking the SDD (and whatever else were giving you issues) out of the machine and then do the OS install? Then after the OS is installed, you would shut it down and try installing the SDD etc and see if things behave after that. (My thinking is that by doing it that way it doesn't give it a chance to set up using anything but the HDD.)
It was a common thing to do this with the older operating systems where you had to break things down to a minimal set up, but it might work for your situation as well.
