So i just had the pleasure of free falling 4 floors in an elevator. Was coming down like normal, then on the 4th floor according to the the display the car made a rather substatial jerk which prompted me to make an involuntary face. sat there looking at 4 on the display with the car not moving, then proceeded to hit the "doors open" button several times. after a few minutes the door finally opened to the basement.

at the time i was still thinking wtf and that there was no way that just happened. tried thinking it through in my head about the whole ride, when 4 light up it was like 1-2 seconds from when the jerk stopped. i then started trying to remember the speed of gravity etc because 1-2 seconds seemed waaay too fast to go 40 feet. sure as shit when i just checked online:
