What is everyone’s take on driving with or without a front licenses plate? My buddy had his off when the cops came to his house (neighbor’s noise complaint) they looked at the car and said nothing about the missing plate, but told him to fix the frame on the rear one because it covered the tabs. He’s been running his car a long time with out it and no problems. But I still don’t want to take any undue risks with tickets (insurance is not cheap as is).

If you don't have one on you're probably OK unless you go down to University. Then, it's just a matter of time, you WILL get a ticket. The second weekend down there without one I got a ticket. Nick8.54 @ 159 mph on a 275 drag radial
5.43 @ 127 mph to the 1/8
8.91 @ 153 in True Street legal trim
Best 60' at Top End Dragways 1.22 on 275's

I believe it is either 67 or 68 and back don't need the front plate. Newer then that and you have to have one. You will get nailed on Uni for it cause it happened years ago to me. I think it is kinda dumb truthfully... there are very few cars that are newer and don't have a spot for one and most don't look that bad with it. Many cars (stangs included) do look cleaner without one, but I would at least throw it in your front window if you choose to go without.Last edited by CaptCrunch; 04-21-2003, 12:37 PM.-1968 Chevelle

I have one of those smoked convex lens cover things on mine and i think it looks fine. It almost makes the plate the same color as the car and the shape matches really well with my GT bumper. If someone wants to run without one i say great. better you getting a ticket than me. the cops are a lot more likely to ticket people without plates at all than people with covered ones.

Okay punchy.....how about making some sort of bracket that mounts the plate down in that center opening? Have it bolted on by a couple bolts that can be taken out if you want the plate/bracket off.
I'm personally running the smoked covers... Just waiting to get pulled over....

no front plate since the day i got my car about 3.5 years ago... i have got a few tickets for it, but ALL tickets were when i was on university. they just look for that shit there. but i have wised up a little, i just try to cruise less, and be parked longer, the cops can't do anything about it if the car is parked in a lot.
even with my tickets, i'd still never put one on, not only cuz i don't wanna drill in my bumper, but because i just think it looks soooooo much better without one on!
putting an ugly front plate on would ruin the whole front end of my car.
