New laptop, recommended downloads and setup

We just bought an inexpensive laptop and was wondering what the computer guys recommend for anti virus software and malware sofware. I've been using Avast on my old computers and have been happy. What other anti virus/malware programs are recommended?

    Thanks.

Would that be in place of Avast? or any other anti virus? Oh, and what about Norton Internet Security? Should I toss it?

                    Microsoft Security Essentials (AV)
                    Malwarebytes (removes spyware)
Spybot: Search & Destroy & Tea Timer (spyware removal & protection)

Those are pretty good essential "must have's"..
