New laptop, recommended downloads and setup

We just bought an inexpensive laptop and was wondering what the computer guys recommend for anti virus software and malware sofware. I've been using Avast on my old computers and have been happy. What other anti virus/malware programs are recommended?

Malwarebytes (removes spyware)
Spybot: Search & Destroy & Tea Timer (spyware removal & protection)

Those are pretty good essential "must have's"..

inexpensive laptops are the way to go. my girlfriends expensive ass dell took a shit on her and my $300 emachine is kicking ass still.
