I lived in Mason City for work. It was by far the most miserable experience of my life. Sure, cost of living was cheap, and when I tipped a bar waitress 5.00...she said, that's for me? All of it?

There was a titty bar there, which is where I probably would have hung out at after work as there was nothing to do there besides drink, but to my dismay it had shut down long ago and all that was left was a rusting shell of a place long gone...Outer Heaven I think is what it was called.

Good luck. I hope you find more to do than I did which was working and drinking....heavily.
