    Portable generators, your opinion...

I'm looking to buy a new portable generator to use mainly for power outages and (very) occasional camping trips. I want something in the 6000-8000watt range and I would like it to be fairly quiet. I know Honda and Yamaha make the quietest portable generators on earth but I don't want to spend 4 thousand for a something that will get used maybe once a year. So my question is, who makes the quietest generator in the 6000-8000Watt range BESIDES Honda or Yamaha? Basically, I'm looking for second best.

I think you should buy one from aldis... totally seemed legit!

Other than that no clue. I know o88 had a very quiet honda one, but not sure how much power it made. WTH do you need 8000 watts for? Do you have a gf running one of these?

Seriously I know you dont want a Honda , but a Honda 2000 is all you need really. It can run a microwave, a fridge, a Tv all at once. Quiet as hell and only a $1000. Plus it doesnt take 3 guys to move it. When you have a power outage what do you need it to run? I mean I have only had one power outage in 14 years and I was only concerned with my fridge and freezer.

It is a damn poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell any word.

I have a 5500 watt and it powered 3 RV's all having microwaves, fridges and furnaces going at the same time and the generator never hicupped. Unless you plan on doing the same, I'd get something smaller and more portable than 6-8000 watt gen set. Mine is on wheels and loud as fuck and a pain to try to fit it in a RV door unless you take the wheels off.

i used to sell the honda eu generators at Northern Tool. they are awesome.

yamaha makes some like them now too, that are quiet. may not be a bad option either.

I have power outages all the time, I live in an old suburb with above ground power lines. In fact, I still don't have power right now and I lost it Saturday afternoon. We also lost it for 3 days a few weeks ago when we had that wind storm. I want a 6-8k generator so I can run the blower in my gas furnace lights, refrigerator, etc. etc. I don't like running a generator at 100% capacity so I feel it's better to oversize. I'd love a 2K Honda (they are sweet) but it's just not big enough for me. I currently have an old 4000K generator that finally took a dump last night at 2am. I borrowed a generator this morning from my cousin but I need to buy a new replacement soon. If I didn't have the ability to feed my house, it would be fucking cold in here by now since it's going on 3 days with no power.

I connect my generator to a dedicated 30amp 120/240 volt outlet just inside my garage door that allows me to feed my entire house with one cord. Nah, I like it here other than the occasional electricity issues.

We have a few coleman (generac) 8500w stand up style ones at work and i hate them. they are noisy as hell and vibrate enought start walking across smooth concrete. one of the 3 we bought threw a rod after 2 hours of running when it was new. coleman wouldnt warrenty it because the warrenty went off of the purchase date. and they are only electric start so if you have a a dead battery and the power is out you have to jump them. We havent bought anything but a honda since and havent had a problem. I know of a few people that have had Onin (sp) generators in their motor homes that seem to like them tho.

I have a 8000/13500 watt Briggs & Stratton Genreator for sale, very little uses. electric start. Runs great I just got one built into my welder now so no need for a second one. This one only has about 20 hours on it. $900 (over 1250 new) and it is not too loud, single cylinder 15hp.

PM me is you want more info, pictures ect.

We had problems with the power going out all of the time until I bought a generator. Then they came out and ran new ground lines or whatever and we haven't had a problem since.
It's still not going to help if the lines were knocked down though, but most of the times it didn't appear to be from that.

Yeah GENERAC are garbage. Onans are WAY better.
