I have to give Hennepin County/Minneapolis Credit (Property Tax)

As much as I despise the machine that is Hennepin county and the City of Minneapolis I have to say they are doing a great job with lowering the market value of homes, at least in my area. I have lots of friends that are still paying outrageous property taxes on homes that are not worth anything close to what the county thinks, in some cases some friends properties are still going up in value according to the county and we all know that’s not true of any area right now.

So who here is still getting owned by their property taxes?

Did they actually lower your taxes, or just your value? My buddy is in Bloomington, and they've lowered his value quite a bit, but they still raised his taxes... It's actually making the situation worse for a lot of people trying to refinance.

The vast majority of the market/taxable value on the property tax statements I've seen have been adjusted downwards. Going up is the exception to the rule.

For a while, before the "housing market crisis", counties were working on closing the gap on the properties out there that had a difference between the est market value and taxable value. You won't find hardly any prop tax statements with a difference between those two numbers anymore now though.

However, many of the prop tax statements I've seen haven't really had the taxes reduced over the past couple of years, even though there was a decent drop in taxable value, most of the time the property taxes held at about the same (or even went up in some cases). If the taxes went down, it wasn't by much.

You ain't seen nothing till you see Golden Valley taxes. It's like every man,woman, dog, cat keeps passing all these, park, school, city improvement bonds/ referendums. My cross walks talk to me now! Yes they say what street you are on and when it is safe to cross. Golden Valley public works spray painted fire hydrant numbers in the snow last year. This city is so out-of-control it would make your head spin! For the last few recent years my "tax market" value was increased. 2011 market value will finally come down BUT my tax % is going to increase.

2007 and 2008 were about the same at 227, 2009 went down to 212, 2010 is back up to 237 rofl. I bought the house for roughly 190. I went into the assessor and he told me they don't look at foreclosure sales to estimate value. Sherburne county is stupid.

My taxes went up $80 between 2007 and 2010.
