Every day is a fire sale in the Kris R family. Cars that is. I'm curious what the next one will be.

The manual recommends 91+ if it's available, but also that it will run on 87 with 'possibly decreased performance'. Mine made great power on 87, and its all I've ever run in it.

Premium is only required in the 350Z.

The Altima/Maxima and any other car with that engine have low enough compression to run 87 octane. The horsepower numbers were calculated with 92 octane, so you will notice a sticker on the fuel door that says "Premium fuel RECCOMENDED for maximum performance". The ECU will detect the lower octane and adjust ignition and valve timing accordinly. You might lose 5 or 10 horsepower, but I notice no real difference in my Maxima.

The door on the 350Z says "Premium fuel REQUIRED"

Running 87 octane on that engine will not do any harm to the motor....I really wish consumer reports would stop saying "premium fuel required" in the negative's section of the V6 Altima and Maximas.....I guess Nissan doesn't buy enough ads from them.

Thanks for the info. The dyno numbers I posted from my car were on 87 octane.

Casey at HTM also told me that he thinks because we have so much ethanol in the fuel in our area, it acts like a little higher octane than in other parts of the country.

                    I disagree.
