1986 Mustang GT Modified Convertible

I bought this 5-speed manual 1986 Mustang GT new in October of 1986 as a dealer demo with 3,000 miles. It now has 34,000+ miles and it was featured in "Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords" (11/95). The tires/wheels in the photos are no longer on it (it has Pony wheels on it with plain center caps mounted with low mileage Yokohama tires). It was one of the first speed density Mustangs in the United States to have a Vortech V-1 supercharger (installed in 1990). It has 3:55 gears, Southside machine bars, Jet Hot coated Mac Shorty headers, Corbeau seats, California Carwear tonneau cover with windscreen (not in photos), custom rear seat delete, Sony with subwoofer/amp connected to factory cassette deck. The rear spoiler is by Dugan Racing and the cowl hood is by Unlimited w/trimmed original GT hood decal. Too many modifications to list (call with questions). This is not a race/track car, but a summer driver/show car. Never beaten on or abused in any way. It has a BMW material top, 170 MPH BBK speedometer and original exhaust w/off road H-pipe. This Mustang is currently appraised/insured for $25k. For a quick sale I am asking $15k FIRM (don't waste my time with offers/trades). I don't have any of the original parts. I have 3 other Fox Chassis Mustangs and in order to keep the peace at home I need to sell one car to buy another (and I have found a non-Ford I plan on purchasing, but must move this one first). 1985-86 Mustang SSP (Special Service Package Mustang — law enforcement vehicle). I sold the wheels/tires to a collector in Ohio who needed them for his restoration of a 1986 Mustang SSP Idaho State Patrol car.

I've had the car for 28 years and only drove it 3 times in the past 3 years. My daughter is a freshman in high school now and it makes more sense to put $10k of the sale proceeds into her 529 college fund and use the rest to purchase a car from my past.

How hard would it be to find a set of the wheels that are in the pictures? They kind of make the look. Beautiful car. Is that an S trim?

Very hard to find ($200 each for nice wheels), and the center caps (in 85 the centers were argent painted plastic and in 86 they were chrome plated plastic) go for over $200 each if you can find them. IIRC, the blower is A-trim w/8 pound pulley (serial #0237).

No, not another SSP, but a car from my distant past. Now don't laugh too hard, a 1970 Plymouth Fury Custom Suburban station wagon. My Dad bought one (his was B5 blue w/blue interior) in the summer of 1970 right off the auto transport at the dealer ($3,600). I spent part of my 14th birthday that year being rushed to the hospital for a ruptured appendix in that car (was the 1st day of 9th grade too), took my driver's test in that car, had my first date in that car (not literally), drove 90 mph for the first time in that car (w/high school buddy down France Ave. near the Tastee-Freeze and almost missed the turn onto 43rd St.), packed it numerous times for the family trip up to the cabin, etc. etc. Who says you can't relive your past!
