For those at the NHRA Nats...

Anyone happen to see the P-51 fly over just before they started eliminations on Sunday?

    Totally sweet

Paul Tibbets was the Captain of the Enola Gay and dropped the first "A bomb" on Japan on August 6th 1945.

Along with Paul, I also met Dutch Van Kirk (Navigator on the Enloa Gay) and had both of them to autograph a picture of the Enola Gay for me.

There is an Air Show this weekend at Flying Cloud airport in Eden Prairie. The didn't mention Paul Tibbets being there again but they said Dutch Van Kirk will be. These guys wont be around much longer so if this type of stuff interests anyone you might want to go to the air show this weekend...... It might be the last time Dutch Van Kirk makes it to Minnesota.

Side Note: I swear to god that I heard on the news a few months ago that Dutch Van Kirk died a while back and NOW I hear he's coming to town..... I even remember thinking "wow, I'm glad I had a chance to meet him and get his signature". NOW, I hear he's coming to town this weekend! We'll see if he actually shows up!!!

WWII aircrafts are very interesting. I live near the Jane's Field Anoka Airport...one morning I was driving down County Road J and a B-17 was flew driectly overhead. He was following J so I saw him coming from pretty far out. Got goosebumps from that one. I've always wanted to go out there when those planes come to town for the show.

I was at Flying Cloud a few years ago when a friend paid $400 for a 1 hour flight on a B-17. I just bought a new car at the time or I would have done it myself.

However, The B-17 will be at Flying Cloud this weekend again so I might just have to pony up the cash and go for it. I love any piece of equipment from WWII especially planes, ships, vehicles and weapons.

I've seen enough P51s in the air lately....

Local crop duster restored one and would fly it around the area buzzing us in the fields. They had a pair fly over in formation for a big community event... the same pair I believe that was involved in the accident in Wisconsin that wrecked 2 planes and killed one (I know the one was here)
