    AutoX/Open tracking....

I am getting away from drag racing. I realized last summer that the car just isn't as much fun to drive anymore with a drag suspension. So, my dad and I are going to start doing the autox/open track deal with our cars. I plan on adding revalved (Sam Strano specd) Konis, Strano hollow bars, Strano springs, and a nice brake upgrade, along with some good street tires instead of the drag radials. Are there any local autox/open track forums?

Have you spoken to Sam Strano? He ran I emailed him about some stuff one day... ended up talking to him for about an hour after that. Good guy though.

I have talked with him through PM on ls1tech. I still need to call him and discuss my rear instant center.

I know it's hard not to get wrapped up in the engineering that goes into these suspension packages. Don't let that hold you up from getting out and driving. I have always been an advocate of educating yourself on the parts you choose, but don't get hung up on it if the package is from a reputable source. Many of these kits are very adjustable and it will take a lot of trial and error to find settings that work well (ie shocks, roll centers, sway bars, tire pressure, camber, toe). When you are starting out it is best to focus on driving becuase it takes a while to build consistency and you can chase your tail on settings for quite a while. Whatever you decide, I would susggest you levae it be for the season and really assess what you have beofre you start tweaking the knobs and such.

Sounds like your head is in the right spot. You are going to love this sport.

I agree. I plan on running the shocks on Sam Stranos settings, aligning to his specs (for a street car) and matching it with his bars and springs. My debate wtih the rear instant center has to do with the torque arm that is on my car. The stock style arm is longer and mounts to the tailshaft of the transmission, my arm is intended more for drag racing and it mounts to a chassis mounted crossmember. It is adjustable, but I am not sure if it will get me where it needs to be for the desired driving characteristics.

Just put a stock torque arm back on?

The stocker may put the IC too far out, it is not adjustable, and I threw it away because it has the torsional rigidity of a wet noodle.

Sounds like a lot of work to swerve around cones. The nice thing about things like auto x is that you can take a geo there and beat brand new cars. Its more about the driver.

It would be about a 30 minute job, and I could make money off of the deal. kthx.

I beat a lotus elise with my SHO. that was fun.

But yes, if you are going to do it this summer, I would highly recommend the PDE with the MNfbody club. They put on a awesome event.
