    Gearing up for next year

It's that time again. What is everyone changing/adding/modifying over the winter? I never got to run my new bilstiens and H&R's on the track this year...I will be looking forward to it next year. I'm definitely going to hit up a couple of open track events next year as well...will I need a cage, belts and all that?

Anyways, my plans for this winter include a 351 swap, a new clutch and an aluminum driveshaft. I have my work cut out for me with the 351. Anyone have recommendations for a clutch?

Nope to the cage/bar and belts. Show up with a totally stock car if you want. I totally suggest doing one of Todd's MN Fbody events. They are the most fun and laid back. Nasa is a close second due to the awesomeness of watching the racing.

I went kind of nuts on my car this fall.

Gutted car, including both doors. No dash, bolting gages to roll bar. Moonroof replaced with sheet aluminum.
6 point roll cage with Nascar doorbars on the driver side and an X on the pass side. Even threw in a window net.
Griggs spring adapters to allow me to run 500 lb rear springs to get the car to keep both front wheels on the gournd while cornering.
Carbed 306 with TFS heads and stage 1 cam, Aluminum flywheel, and driveshaft
New BG fuel system with AN fuel lines
Got a used FMS alumium Radiator
Replaced rusty floorboards with sheet steel
Ran the rear brake lines inside the car so I can put the brake bias adjuster within my reach while driving

You know, fun stuff like that.

I'd just go with the FMS King Cobra clutch, cheap and effective on many cars...

Sounds like you've been busy, Steve. Did you weld the cage in yourself? Defeinitely going to be an interesting setup...when is the date of the F body event, or have they set it yet?

A 351? WTF? Didn't you just spend all summer building your 302, Nate?

I ran my car totally stock in 2006. It's doable, but it's so much more comfortable having a seat that actually has lateral support, and a 5 point harness. Can't have a harness without at least a bolt in roll bar. I reccomend saving your mod money for open track days.

This year I am looking at finishing my rollbar, by welding in the door bars. I will get new 17x9 wheels and 275's all around. No R-compounds yet, but something better than the shitty all seasons I have had for the last 2 years...probably going to get Khumo MX's since they are cheap and good.
There was someone on here selling a used PHB, which I will probably buy if he hasn't sold it yet...pending that, I will modify my exhaust for mufflers w/dumps. Probably rip out all my air conditioning stuff. maybe get an o/r h-pipe and get rid of the air pump that goes with it too. Aluminum radiator is a maybe, and so is an oil cooler.

I am still trying to figure out some sort of truck/trailer setup.

I have been working on wleding in the cage with a friend in Minneapolis. It's been practice for the Can-Am style car he's building this winter.

The MN F body event date has not been scheduled. Todd should post it here.

I remember Todd saying he was going to do TrackTime Motorsports open track day at the new BIR short track in June 2008.

              Scot,
You may want to consider something other than dumps to keep from boiling the fuel in your tank. Remember the gas smell in my car? Look at some type of a turn out...

Lincoln is getting a T45 or T56 (depending on funds at time of purchase) and possibly headers. If I still have money left over, bilsteins or Koni adjustables and H&R springs.

Hell, I'd go with the springs and adjustables before headers. More fun with the handling better and headers aren't going to do a lot anyways.

Best thing I did for my car for track use was the Cobra brakes and Ford Racing handling package.

Edit: The MM subconnectors also added alot to the control.

Yep, I should have the first weekend that the new short track is ready. Hope to have a date within the next month or so, but should be sometime in June.

Those of you on my mailing list will be getting a notice & I'll try to post here as well. I'll also be sending out a special offer via email soon on a new "track toy" that some of you guys might be interested in. Stay tuned...

so far I plan on gutting the car.
channaling the floor and installing the full sfc's
8point cage for sure I might do a 10 but I kinda want to keep the dash.
                        seats and harnesses
and prep and paint the body.

                        for driveline.
I will proboly just get a 302 roller engine and bolt my heads to it with a decent cam. and a small wiend super charger. I will be keeping my 5 speed and I will be reinstalling the 8.8 soon.

the rebuilt 306 that I have I am going to gut and install a scat 347 forged kit as well as a set of tfs twr heads and a fairly larger cam. hopeing to make 350hp on 87 octane with a safe tune.
                        rides:
00 Yukon xl with butt warmers.
1986 fox body vert. that never gets driven

I am thinking about some coilovers. But it will probably never get beyond that.

                          Maybe some new tires

You nevre had that problem until last year when you ran R-comp slicks, and were driving significantly harder though, right? If I get my truck/trailer situation secured and no longer have a need for a spare tire and extra trunk space, I could always get a fuel cell...isn't that how all the AI guys avoid boiling fuel? I don't hear much about that problem, and most of them just have dumps, don't they? Isn't Brooks' car just dumps after a couple glasspacks? How about Kyle and Paul's car?

Wait...boiling fuel in the tank because of dumps? Is this something I should be worrying about with my MAC Pro Dumps?
