Auto X June 11th at Windom MN airport

As part as River fest activities in Windom MN, the Okoboji Corvette club puts on an autocross at the airport.
It's Sunday June 11th this year, starting at 9am. Something like $20-30?
I'll post more info as it's available; I think there's an aerial of the route also.

This is where I grew up and I like nothing better than to see corvette's get beat. My buddy's 89 Vette usually wins. Neon RT/Turbo took second last year. I might run for the fun of it.

Last year a friend of mine from Madison Lake brought his Hennessey Viper Venom 800, but this year he's bringing the AC Cobra. The Viper isn't made to handle under 90 mph.

See attachment for Airport map. It's 2 miles north of Windom on HWY 71.

That course looks fricking huge. I'm not sure if I like the crossing paths though.

They don't cross, you have to wait till the guy ahead of you gets back from the east hanger and turns to go north on the main runway before you can start.
The viper got 130 on the straight a way back south last year. But then again he slid right through the end of the cones on the south end of the main runway too.

Sometimes the drive to the events is worth the trouble.

I have wanted to autoX an airport for a while now.
How many people typically show up to these events?
How many runs cans we expect?
                    How long are the runs?
How are work assignments handled on such a large course?
My couch pulls out but I don't.

I'll try to get these answers for you.
Last year there were about 30 cars?
                      I think 3 runs.
1/4 mi, turn, 300 yds? turn around, 350 yds, turn, 300 yds, turn around, 1/2 mile back? zig-zags and turns all over.

Work? Just driving, the Corvette clubs take care of the work. I've never been to any other so I also don't know how they are suppose to go either.

I know some of the corvette guys don't race, retired and stuff, but some do.

only three runs? or two groups of three runs?

thats how most of the corvette events up here are done.

Who shags cones then? COM guys?

By run length, I meant duration. That will show you how fast the flow of the event will be. It sounds like these runs are in the >70 second range.

Still sounds intersting, too bad we couldn't get 5-6 runs with only 30 cars at the event, but that is kind of designed into the track layout as yout described earlier.

hmmm if you space the cars 1 minute apart, that's only 30 minutes for everyone to get a run, so 3 runs would only be 90 minutes. I'm sure there's onther stuff that eats up time, like chaning run groups etc., but it still seems like more than 3 runs would be plausable for only 30 cars. That would be a >3hr drive for me, so I don't know if it would be worth getting up at 5:30 on a Sunday (or Saturday, or whatever) for only 3 timed runs. hmm... I do really like the looks of this place though. It looks like it might be the answer to the lack of St. Cloud as a site this year.

On a side note...anyone ever think about setting up an event at the Anoka County airport? Just a thought.
