    Helmets

I have a question about helmets. A guy I work with won a trip from Marlboro to some racing school where he got to drive IROC cars and some other shit where they got to go around 160 mph. In the end, he sold me his helmet, worn 3 times, for the three days he was there. It’s made by Simpson and is a Snell 2000. I bought it for 125.00 today. How long is this helmet good for? Because if it is expired, I will just use it as a motorcycle helmet. I am a helmet noob, so. Enlighten me please.

That will be fine. You must be thinking of a couple of other threads that the snell dating was in question, but those were referring to Snell95.

It's the Snell95 helmets that is stiring up all the controversy. As long as it's SNELL2000 or 2005 your good for at least 4 years.

They aren't legal this year, even though the helmets are supposed to be good for ten years from date of manufacture. The kicker is they made SNELL95 helmets until 1999, so you could have a helmet that has the old/unacceptable snell rating, but still be under ten years old.
