    mods for auto-x

alright, i'd really like to get into auto-x this up coming summer, especially with all the progress tcs is having with the met council and the events that are coming up.

i'd definitley like to do some mods to the 5.0 in the spring for these events. i was thinking along the lines of subframes, springs, wheels/tires, but i am open to any suggestions you guys have.

tire wise, would it be possible to use the 16" wheels i have now(and get a different set for daily driving) with a different tires(need suggestions on a good auto x tire for cheap), or should i buy a larger wheel?

what springs/other minor suspension mods? i just want to make my car turnable as cheap as possible

any other performance mods i should look at? i'd like to do h/c/i someday, but other than that i dont know what i could do for the time being.

It all depends on how much time you have....there is some relitively inexpensive things you can do, that just take a ratarded amount of time. springs and tires a good start, talk to flash about his tires. they are sweet!

Subframes First, Full length. Then I dunno, depends on how much money you have.

From what I understand, subframes might bump him up a class.

First things first Jim. The most important "mod" you can do for autox is tires, tires, tires. Now, are you planning on using this set of tires exclusively for autox? You said in your post something about having two sets of wheels and tires. If you want to make that sort of investment, you could just accept that bump in class, and go with Victos and subframe connectors. Otherwise, if you are just going to use one set of tires for everything (street/autox), then you will have to look for other options.

We can give you some links to good tires. Something along the lines of this:

So basically, do tires first. Then start worrying about other things if you want.

i was thinking about having a set for auto-x, and another for daily driving/cruising all depends on how much i have to spend of course

if i went with a set of victos, can i run them on my 16" wheel that i have now, or would it be better to move up to a 17/18?

i'd really like to do subframes regardless, seems like those who have had them put on said it makes a night and day difference in the car, any recommendations on a full length set? i was looking at the maxim motorsport xl series ones, seemed pretty nice and not too bad price wise

As a novice You won't notice a difference between a 16 and 17" wheel. 16" tires should cost less, go with 'em.

Blah, I use one set of tires and I do ok. I was a few seconds behind Steve and he was on slicks. For the initial cost of entry for wheels and tires, I would do subframes first. Verts are flimsy as shit, and need all of the chassis stiffening as possible. I am not going to buy wheels and tires for a long time. I am going to burn up my yoko’s. Subframes, lower chassis brace, struts, shocks, springs. You could do all of that for 1000.00, the same price for rims and a nice set of tires.

Who cares about class bumping? I do it because it's fun. I care not which class I am put into. Better to stiffen the car than have the body twist and have the doors not shut properly from abuse.

Very true. Subframe connectors are a must in any Mustang, especially verts.

As a newbie, your best investment is to learn to drive first. When you can drive street tires consistantly at thier limit, then upgrade tires. Spend your money on seat time and in the long run you will be faster than people that jump right to sticky tires.

Subframe connectors are always a good investment. Do springs if you want them for other reasons, they arent going to make you faster at this point. Besides, the ideal spring rate now won't be what you need down the road if you continue to mod the car or learn to drive faster.

You getting sick of saying this yet?

I think it's time for an autoX for newbies sticky, and some corner-carver-ish enforcement.

Just start with a descent set of tires....I did suprisingly well with my BFG Traction T/A's (245/50-16 V rated, not H rated like most of them are) and would love to do it on 'em again this year if I didn't already have new wheels to pick up in a few weeks here.

I think an auto-x for newbies sticky is a great idea.

Ive breifly looked at the various rule textx and what not and still am not quite sure what class my car would be in. Then again, as stated by other members I guess I dont really care, im not out to win anything, just have a good time and hang with fellow car enthusiasts.

I still have stock rubber on my car which is poor from the get go so new tires are definatly in order. I will have to see how the money situation goes because I would like to get different set of wheels/tires altogether anyway.
