Lets play, "Whats That Sound?" PICS ADDED

    What are your guesses,or knowns?

New shortblock, started doing that right after it was started for the first time. Yes, I did prime the oil system and it does have oil pressure. Was barely audible at idle, but very noticable above 1500 rpm for first few minutes, now its loud all the time(less than 10 minutes of idling).

I have pulled both valve covers off and started it to check for valve cover interference, but no luck. I now have the intake off(upper and lower). How can I tell if I have a collapsed lifter? Is it possible to have a bad lifter but only noticeable while running? I have TFS heads and TFS stage 1 cam. Heads were rebuilt, and the cam has about 5K miles on it.

Could it be the clutch? It does it with the peddle in or out.

I didnt have any issues with it while adjusting the rockers on the engine stand.

    Any help is appreciated.

    ADDED PICS BELOW

Guess which one is new oil.

How bad does the filter look? Besides the big slice through it.

That doesn't really sound like knock. It came fast and went away fast.

Almost sounds like gears skipping teeth......

Pull your dizzy out and make sure that your dizzy gear isn't all chewed up.

Not a rod knock. would also be audible as such during idle. This is another sound. Like MacStang suggested, look at your distributor...

Raises hand. It's Macs Stang. Lowers hand.

I have seen to many people use the wrong cam/dizzy gear material and chew the gear up.

An exhaust leak would be present all the time, not just under free rev. This ain't no GM.

Pulled the distributor and the gear looks fine. If it was skipping teeth, it wouldnt keep running. The distributor and cam have been used before on my old shortblock and both gears look fine.

Its doing it all the time now, but i have the intake off so I can run it anymore.

                Governor weights are shot.
                What are those?

Header is tight. If it was the header, wouldnt it have done it constantly from minute one?(can't say day one).

If it was piston slap, wouldnt I be getting it on all the cylinders and it would be making a ton of noise?

What about "lazy" lifter. One that appears to be good, but once it starts running, it can't keep up.

                Keep the ideas coming.

I remember hearing about Spec clutches hitting bellhousings. I have about 5-10K miles on the clutch, and flywheel so I wouldnt think things changed just from getting a new block. It never hit before. Plus, it sounds more like its coming from inside the engine, near the top end.

You 100% your rockers are not hitting the Valve Covers? That is what it sounded like to me. That is the only thing that increase in speed that fast when revving. Valvetrain. Rod knock would be 1 rod and not that fast. Distributor would skip and timming would be of and it would stahl. My vote if lifter or rocker
It is a damn poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell any word.

Is there any play in the distributer?

                      Like side to side movement?

Are your push rods super loose? Rockers properly adjusted?

Try and pin point the area that it is coming from.

Is the blower belt on or off?

                            Not neccesarily.

I had the rear passenger side header bolts loosen up (last 2) created a small header leak. Swore to hell and back it was valve train... It wasnt.

Sounded like metal on metal, increased as rev's went up and was actually more noticable after letting off.
