I am going to take a guess both those 500s and the 220s are peak hold low imps... I dont think rnsf's ecu can drive those without some wiring changes and adding inline resistors... that would be to much work... and I dont want to answer that phone call when it comes...rides:

Funny story, I do know what the hell I'm talking about, and I'm waiting for a client to call me back, so I've got 10 minutes worth of time!Originally posted by orange88 View PostLike I said, you have little to no clue.
A gm cross fire was cutting edge at one time and still works great to this day.
If ms was as great of a product I would still be running it and so would every other fast car out there. Truth to the matter is its not really that great, its just your 250hp car dosent require anything more to run.
Like I said swing by and give this big boy injectors a shot if the systems as great as you claim it is it shouldnt have any issues handling the fine tuning of getting it to run right
I've worked with FAST, AEM, twEECer, and done a shit load of hacking on GM ECUs (including running a 5.0 and a few of my 2.3 incarnations on them). In all fairness, I haven't used the latest XFI stuff. And, oh I almost forgot, I have a degree in Computer Science with minor in Electrical Engineering. Spend my days working on/with electronics including those intended for extremely harsh environments. So, I really like it and TwistedMetal, who has none of those credentials, still managed to get it up and running on his car.
The only real fault of the MegaSquirt design is that it uses the same injector driver design as the GM stuff form the late-1990's. MSIII has not fixed that, at all, but that is its only real fault. The CPU, feature set, and extensibility is no different than that of the other major players. It's not dummy proof, the self-tuning isn't as nice, and of course, there are those older injector drivers. Of course, the opportunity to modernize what is essentially a basic transistor circuit is a bit limited. The MS version of it is highly reliable using low cost components. Either the components get more expensive or less reliable - sometimes both! It can help with the low-impedance large flow injectors because a faster reacting transistor will help drive them faster to allow better close times at idle. You'll still have large bucks into your injectors (which I'm sure you do) to make sure they have a good enough relay in them to close quickly enough. Sequential fire with X-Tau correction helps too ... but then I'm sure you know MegaSquirt has both of those features.
Now, let me sum up the content of all of your objections: "It sucks because it sucks." Really, you've not given any single reason that isn't purely subjective.
Other potential objections:
- "The wiring harness connector sucks." The DB37 connector has been used in military grade electronics since the late-1960's. It's one of those "figured out" things that may not look nearly as modern but it is highly reliable and inexpensive.
- "The case isn't pretty." Aw... sorry I just have a large cawk, I don't worry about my car parts doing it for me. If it's a real problem, hide the case somewhere, paint it, put some Hello Kitty stickers on it, whatever.
- "There is no phone number to call." You're right. Try the forums, google, and reading the schematic.
- "But I just want it to work and a number to call." There are a number of vendors who are actually selling MegaSquirt and support it. Spectre performance, for example, and the DIY Auto Tune guys have a good reputation.
- "The electronics aren't as good." You've never looked at them, and it's not like FAST or BS are going to give you the schematics to actually compare them.
- "I just don't like X,Y,Z." Fine, move on or, alternatively, FIX IT. You may have noticed, you have all the schematics, source code, and an open community looking to make improvements. Otherwise, move on, but don't talk shit because it's missing. It's like bitching at Apple because your iPhone is missing some feature. It doesn't mean the iPhone isn't a good phone, it just means you found something else.
MegaSquirt has been used to power quite a few high power, competitive cars:
- http://www.diyautotune.com/cars/cust...h_fairmont.htm -- If you follow the link to his truck, you'll see it runs 10's and is daily drivable. Then again, this is pretty much like your lawn mower ... just winning drag racing competitions.
- http://www.diyautotune.com/cars/cust...studebaker.htm -- Geeze, this one looks slow too. 240 MPH record setters at Bonneville just look so slow compared to the 400+ MPH cars.
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UrK8MjltMA - This DSM does 500+ horsepower on a 2.0L, oh and MegaSquirt.
- http://www.hotrod.com/eventcoverage/...s/viewall.html - Jon Huber's 1979 Mustang, powered by a 2.3L and making as much power as the Orange Camaro.
So maybe it's just my lack of paint-fume exposure but maybe you can just concede, "It works for some people," and move the hell on. Also, TwistedMetal, lay off a little bit, keeping in mind I AGREE WITH YOU.
Neither of the two of you look particularly academic by the end of your discussion.1992 Mazda MX3: L3 100 BigYmp.

To be honest ducky I dont give two shits whats in side of either box, just what it does. Like you said ms uses 30yo drivers in theres.
I also see it as anyone that has anything worth somthing dosent give it away.
I got in to it with rnsf cuz he always runs his mouth about how much better then everything else.
Ive did fine tuning with both. Those old as dirt driver are slow. You said it your self. My offer stands to him to make large injectors work flawless on one. I thought my 160i had on a ms worked like shit for drivablty.
Im just making sure somone dosent drink the ms water on a car that it dosent fit well with. Becuse comparing 500hp cars to 2400hp cars is like apples to oranges. And 240 mph in 3 miles isnt the same as 240mph in1/4 mile
So ill take my over priced fast xfi with all the bells wistles and traction control and go play elsewhereBighley Auto Body

So DB told me "You have to run a stock factory non-rebuilt distributor to have good luck with the AEM on a Mustang"
I have a full MSD set up with crank trigger.....?Im in Blaine letting some girl get 14" inches, i think she knows you....

The problem with running the non-factory dizzy's is that their electronics are not up to OEM standards...you will throw a ton of timing errors and the engine will run like crap.
I have a OEM factory dizzy with my AEM and I get a couple of errors now and again. If it is in the cards I will do a individual coil setup with a crank trigger or a EPM. Timing errors will be non-existant.

My setup is running solely on an OEM TFI and single coil for rpm input and ignition advance, I personally have not had a single problem with it. During several checks, commanded timing has always been verified as accurate with a timing light. I found it interesting that it will even fire in "limp" when the ECU is disconnected.ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Vote democrat... because your daddy's union boss said so and millions on welfare are depending on it.
