This! I just did one in a blazer on Friday for some very similar issues. Ignition switches are a common problem across many of GMs lines. Sounds like you got it already Adam

I have to swap batteries between cars and whenever I swap to my '96 Bonneville it almost always seems to work loose. that duel positive connector is a PITA. It actually did stall on the highway and another time when slowing down at a stoplight. On the highway I simply restarted it and it acted as if nothing happened, I didn't even lose my radio settings. You're right though, I've ran many other cars off of the alt in the past so I agree with it usually works that way. Sometimes weird things happen when you have an intermittent connection so it can vary from car to car or even the same car. I'm not saying that's what it is either, just something to keep in mind when you're looking at it.

BTW, that F-body was in the air for between 1.7 - 1.9 seconds. Using an average of 1.8 seconds from launch to impact, at the assumed speed of 100 MPH, that car flew 264 feet when it impacted near the top of that bridge post.

That might be true. But if the vehicle went off the road at 100mph, its speed would have been reduced by the increased drag of the surface of the ditch, the impact with the guard rail which would include the energy absorbed by the body of the vehicle and guard rail, conversion of energy into altitude as well as rotational motion.

Say if its speed was reduced to 75mph it would have traveled approximately 198 feet by multiplying (75 mph)(1.8 sec.)(1.466 (mph conversion to feet/sec.))
