I don't think it will matter on your ranger, but on my dad's 95 Powerstroke every aftermarket alt we tried left the battery light on.

Make sure you don't have any corroded wires at the Alt. connector, i had a focus do this at work and all i had to do was put a pig tail on it because it had 1 wire that looked swollen, when i pulled on it, it fell out of the connector.
I had lights with 1G alts all the time because of dirty terminals, never with 2G or 3G for some reason. The internal reg is fairly sealed but its always a possibility.

        Jesus. Get over yourself.

        1. Bring used alt to a place that can bench test it. Buy accordingly

        2. Some auto parts stores don't take returns on electrical. There is a reason for that

People who throw parts at things as a means of diagnosis only to return parts they don't need add are a drain on the system and make parts more expensive for the rest of us. You think this shit grows on alternator trees? You think they can sell it as new after your greasy paws have been all over it.

Making other people suffer for your laziness is weak cheese.

You may be a regular McGuyver when it comes to putting a John Deere tractor body on a bronco frame, but this thread is pretty revealing.

Cut the wire on the alt, attach a spade clip, done.

I had the same problem on my Escort. Did this. Done.

You can look at my car tomorrow and see the exact wire.

Don't categorize all aftermarket parts together! There is a big difference! We (napa) have sold quite a few of these for the powerstrokes and I've never heard of it leaving on the light. I've only seen this one time and Ford has a bulletin out on it. It's on the Lincoln Aviator, and that's the only one. And they are a different part number than the S.D. alternators.

That is good advice on the connectors though, those are somewhat common.

I have one, its called my garage

I have alot of fun with alternators, generators and permanent magnet DC motors. Alternators have many uses and can generate usable power from just about anything that spins.

used 8hp Briggs + just about any alt + wiring + inverter + time = a perfectly good cheap homebrew true sine wave generator.
