I think we should change the term from "Open a can of whoop ass" to "Open a can of 2 Beer".

I liked mine when I had it.
I went with a steeda short throw, simple CAI, MSD Coils and wires, and a Tune.
Was a fun little car and would get 30+ mpg on the hwy.
Note that it is next to impossible to totally disable the traction control in the 2002 due to some FU in the computer.
Also, be prepared to spend some time fixing some of the weak points. Nearly ALL of the 2002-2004 models will break the little knob on the armature that controls the switch over from long intake runner to short intake runner. It makes a BIG difference under heavy acceleration. It is a simple fix with a drill and a screw, but a PITA none the less. (search focusfanatics.com for details)
Also, many will develop a "squak" in the rear around the sub-woofer. Hunt around for the rubbing panel, insulate a bit and done. Gets real annoying in the cold and on bumpy roads.
If it has the chrome wheels, be prepared for a nightmare of maintenance. The brakes on those cars dust something fierce and it is a daily cleaning regimen to keep them looking nice.
Also many instances of the 6-CD changer going out in them.
Mine never did, but I know of several in the area that did.

My six disc took a shit, I had the head warp on it at 34k miles, I have fixed the intake runner. I have had the rattle in the rear, I did a tsb while at the ford dealer for the clutch and flywheel. Flywheel was in two pieces (dual mass flywheel) I have dont 3 of 4 wheel bearings on it. Sway bar links, etc. I have done lots and lots of other piddly little fixes on the car. The list could go on for hours.Originally posted by RocFoc View Post

It's going to be in the junk yard for a reason. I understand you have a religion called LS motors and you have faith that the LS motors break the laws of physics and work better and cost less than anything else ever built. Plus they never wear out.
I disagree.

64,xxx on mine. 6 disc took a dump in Nov. Just started hearing the rattle.
Has ran great, been low maintenance so far.
I have the euro option, and
those heated ricaros
Put cougar rims on with winterforce tires and the thing is soooo nice in the winter.
How do you know if the runner linkage is busted? I still feel the power bump at 5,200. Is there a reasonable way to check?:geeza: -Member of WCR Inc.

I had a 02 svtf, one of the only cars I miss. I loved how it drove and worked as a daily driver. Mine did have every single tsb go wrong with it though. Plus it was a california lemon. Plus the engine blew up on me.... Wierd thing was I never ever beat on it, I drove it like I wanted to keep it forever. Had to sell because of $$$ problems, and despite the issues I would have loved to keep it

Just trace the cable to the linkage if its busted the cable will just be hanging there. Make sure to give it a tug, as it isn't plainly obvious it isn't attached due to the stiffness of the cable casing leading up to the armature.Originally posted by loads View Post
