Next time try turning the spark plug the opposite direction by hand until you feel it click and then start it by hand until you can't turn it any more.

I still don't see how you're going to keep the shavings from falling in. The grease is going to catch it? Either way, make sure you're dead on when you re-tap it.

Using grease on the tap and drill bit is an old trick used to keep shavings from dropping off. It works well.

This pos fixed yet? I am only guessing but a drill bit, tap and the heli coil are going to run about the same as having it done at a shop by a pro that has done it more than once... That and if shavings are left behind from them, I'd bet you would get a free motor.
