    EEC tuning

Who has experience tuning a A9L EEC, or which shops would be willing to help me get a base tune going? Maybe charge an hourly rate or something.

I finally got the 331 together and installed, I made a base tune based on research on various other forums (injector slopes, injector offsets, injector breakpoint, CID, MAF transfer).

No matter what I do the car fires during cranking then immediately dies. If I fast pump the throttle the car stays alive off the transient/accel enrichment but otherwise it is extremely lean and pops through the intake a lot. A guy on EECtuning.org sent me a tune to try as a shot in the dark, and after putting in my injector settings this will idle extremely rough and has a BAD lean surge. Thats as far as I have gotten after about 20 hours of messing around. I'm just looking for some help to get me started without breaking the bank.

I'm using a Moates Quarter Horse for hardware with Binary Editor for software.

I've been tinkering with a Tweecer with Binary Editor for a little while. I'm nowhere near and expert, but I can give a few(very few) pointers.

One thing I noticed is sometimes, for some unknown reason, my injector firing order gets screwed up. I dont know why or how, but it has happened to me a few times. I would have the same symptoms as you are having. Let me look at the software and see if I can remember any odd problems.

EDIT: Check your Injector Output Port table also. I think I had issues when changing between 1 and 2 hego sensors.

EDIT2: Did you change your Scaling Functions to compensate for the mass air and injectors? Is your first MAF voltage 0?

Again, I'm just going off what I can remember what I had problems with.

I'll look into those things. My MAF settings should be OK. However I was having such a hard time I ended up putting the stock MAF and curve back in just so I could remove that as a unknown.

Isnt the Moats Quarter Horse going to replace the Tweecer?

I am looking at the moates stuff and I have been playing with eeceditor... eeceditor seems to be fairly easy to use software.

my car has an a9l. when I installed the 331 in mine. I put 1000 miles on with the 30's and a 30lbs maf sensor and had very few if any drive issues. mine actually idled very well.
it's almost allstock! except the wheels.

I was having so many problems I have moved on, it has to be a mechanical issue. Once I sort that out I think the QH will probably work fine.

NO... Moats is not linked to TwEECer what-so-ever.

                      Anything is possible though.

This car should run without any aftermarket chip installed. I thought you had matching injectors and MAF.

Usually if the cam timing is off the compression will be low but it also can be really high depending which was the cam is off. It's a hard way to tell.

If the compression is in a spec range and the engine fires and stalls like you say it does, the problem most likely is the tune, it also could be the injectors or the MAF sensor.

I'm going to shim my rockers, preload is not correct, but I don't think it is far enough off to cause me this big of a problem. I also found a vacuum leak which is probably a good portion of the problem. I should have the parts on Wednesday, so I'll give it another shot then.

                            Preload?

The vac leak would cause this problem if it was a rather large leak...

This car should run with no chip even installed...

He is talking setting the lash on his rockers. I would imagine his term "preload" is refering to 1/4-1/2 turn past zero lash.
