    94 Mustang GT Fan issues

Ok I thought it was the CCRM but the new one did the same thing. Fan would come on when it was hot but only. I used 2 jump wires from the fan to the battery and both speeds work. Any idea why my fan isn't turning on and how I can fix this.

What happens if you ground out the coolant temp sensor wire? Does the fan turn on? What about the ac or defrost? They should automatically turn the fan on. What does your fan plug look like? Melted or distorted at all? Any other wiring issues with the car?

Thanks 1bad01 but I found the issue. It is either a faulty gauge or the temp sensor. I put a mechanical gauge in and it was reading correct. I was worried the fan wasn't coming on when it was up to the red and come to find out it was maybe only 150 degrees when it was showing red. Damn crappy gauges.

Hmmmm. I wonder if my gauge is off as well. I ran into this issue last year and I ended up just running a manual switch.

Does your gauge still read hot?

I will have to review the issue when I pull my car out in May. My fan was not turning on by itself. I replaced almost everything to no avail. CCRM. Gauge sender. But it would turn on and off when I ran direct leads to the battery. I checked on corral and this is a common problem - but nobody ever had a consistent solution to the problem. Sometimes it is the CCRM - other times the solution was a range of disparate items. Hence why I just ran a switch.

Do you have access to a scanner? I plugged Pete's solus into our 94 to check into our idle issues last year. It would show you a temp reading from the sender. Since your sender is replaced, you could us the scanner to read what temp the car is, and see how that corresponds to the gauge. The scanner can also command both high and low speeds of the fan. The 94/95 ecu is primitive, but kt word be interesting to see what a scanner would show on your car, and if the scanner could command your fan on.

I never heard about these fan issues until the op's post. Our 94 mustang has over 350k miles on the body, still stock ccrm, fan, and wiring. Since the 393w swap and fluidyne radiator, the fan rarely comes on, only runs when extended idling or stuck in traffic on very hot days. Fan still turns on with ac and scanner shows normal fan operation. The car runs below the fan turn-on temp the majority of the time, that's why the fan rarely turns on

That is what I'm wondering is going on - I'm running a 3 core aluminum radiator now after my swap...it is likely my gauge is just reading inaccurately for some dumb reason. I remember using an infrared temp sensor, though, and it read hot before the fan came on if I remember right. Regardless, when I spliced into the harness for the switch I left everything else functional, so I will have to look into it again after my upcoming months of insanity.

I think we checked his sender with my scan tool but I don't remember what the result ended up being.
